I know it's already Friday (again) & I apologize for being so absent the last couple of weeks. I promise I'm still alive & that everyone is well! We came back to our home town for the month two weeks ago & time is just flying by! I cannot believe we have already been back two weeks already. The day after we arrived at my parent's house, K flew off to LA (not California) to meet up with his business partner & attend a work-related event. That left me as the single parent to the boys for about 10 days. My parents & family were around, of course, but it's not the same as having both parents home (especially when you are trying to potty train your toddler).
Last Friday, my mom & I decided to take the boys on a mini-getaway to the beach for a couple of nights. It was honestly JUST what we needed after a week without daddy. The change of scenery was amazing & I really wanted H to be able to experience the ocean for the first time this year. If we hadn't made it to the beach during this trip we likely wouldn't have tried again until next year. My parents live about 2.5 hours from the beach we went to & it was an easy drive up. We left right around nap time & H slept most of the trip. C also slept about half of it. I also have to give C HUGE props because even with all the excitement & activity he did not have one.single. potty accident while we were away. Pretty darn good for only being a week & a half into potty training. We got to the beach around 2:30PM & drove around town a little bit so mom could see where things were. We went to the resort afterward & were lucky enough to be able to check in early (check in time is normally 4PM). After getting settled into our townhouse, we took the boys down to the beach. C was not a huge fan of walking on the sand at first (not surprising), but he got used to it. My mom took him wave-jumping & he loved that until he tried to do it by himself & got knocked on his butt by a wave. He was almost over it at that point since he was soaked, but my mom didn't want him to fear the ocean & they got right back out there. We also flew the kite we brought & spent some time digging in the sand. The weather was actually decently warm for the coast & it really wasn't that windy. We definitely picked a good weekend.
After the beach, we headed back to the room to change & freshen up. We headed out to dinner at a restaurant called the Lost Roo. I had been before on a previous beach trip & it was better then I remembered. We ordered some tator tots as an appetizer & they were SO SO good. We even let H have a few bites & he was definitely a fan. Both boys were so good the whole time & after we ate we headed back to the room to relax & put H to bed. C stayed up a little bit longer playing & then he went to bed too. We were pleasantly surprised when we arrived to our townhouse to see that we had a third small bedroom upstairs with a single in it. C was ecstatic to have his own room/bed & slept in there all night (both nights) with no problems.
The next morning, we headed out to take a walk on the boardwalk & beach path. It was great to get some exercise in as well as some fresh air. Afterward, we went back to the room so that H could nap & I took C down to the indoor pool. He wasn't a huge fan of not being able to touch the bottom of the pool & spent more time freaking out then swimming (again, not a huge surprise). We only spent about 30 mins at the pool before he was done. It was a good chance to test out his new water-winglike apparatus & it works amazingly well. There was no way that kid was going underwater even if he actively tried (which he didn't). After the pool, we headed down to the strip to try to let the boys ride the carousel. Unfortunately, H slept too long & we spent too much time dawdling because by the time we got down there the carousel had closed (with 15 mins. till 5 *eye roll*). The carnival area is only open on Saturdays & Sundays from 12-5PM so needless to say, we missed the chance to ride the carousel all together. C was pretty disappointed so we decided to go for ice cream instead. It was the first time that we got C his own cup of ice cream & he was thrilled. We also let H have a taste of our cones & he was obviously a fan. After ice cream we headed back to the room & tried to get down to the beach again for a little bit. Despite being a fabulously sunny day, the beach was a little too cold & windy this time around & so we only spent about 30 mins hanging out. After the beach we headed out to a little drive-in to pick up some food & take it back to the room. After eating we more or less put H down for the night & C shortly there after.
Monday morning we got everything packed away & ate some breakfast in the room. After loading up the car & checking out, we headed down to the strip for some shopping. We went into quite a few of the little shops as well as the treat store. My mom got C & I a sweatshirt (we could find one small enough for H that was cute) & we bought a boat-load of saltwater taffy. After shopping we headed to Marsh's Museum & C had the best time putting nickels & dimes into the old-timey games/machines. We picked up some souvenirs for my brother/cousin & decided to just head on home. We had planned to make a quick stop at the lighthouse on the way back, but we don't have the required Discover Pass & didn't want to pay the park fee to just walk around for a few minutes. I attempted to feed H before we left, but he more or less refused. =( Both C & H slept the whole way home so all & all it was an easy trip back.
We had a wonderful time & I loved getting to spend that special time with my momma. Now I'm even more excited for our big family vacation to Sun River next month. =)
