Life with Madeline: Week 2

I was certainly right about time flying. At this rate it's going to be her first birthday tomorrow...

Stats: At her 2 week WCC, she weighed 8lbs. 3oz. & was 21.5 inches long! I'm not sure what her head measurement was & I forgot to ask. Her next visit will be at one month old on March 01. I can't believe how long she is already & how fast she's growing. She's still in newborn clothes, but has outgrown a few things since she's so long & is wearing newborn size diapers. She is wearing size 0 or crib size shoes.

Nursing: She's still doing well, but does she nurse A TON. During the day it's every one to two hours (occasionally farther apart on the rare occasion) & near constantly from like 6-10PM (or until she passes out). She definitely uses nursing as her comfort crutch at this point since she still refuses a pacifier the majority of the time. She usually nurses fairly quickly doing about 10-15 mins per side, but when she's nursing for comfort it can be a lot longer. She doesn't always nurse on both sides & most times she doesn't ends up being overnight which leaves me less then comfortable to say the least. At this point we don't have a schedule & I'm not sure how many times a day she is eating as we aren't tracking it. She is still nursing 100% on demand at this point as that seemed to work best with Holden & thus far it's working well for Madeline too. Even if sometimes I feel like she eating 24/7 & my boobs are going to fall off.

Sleep: She's been doing a lot better this week with the exception of one night where she was again awake between 12AM & 3:40AM. Currently she's waking 2-3 times per night in-between 10PM & 5:30AM. BUT it does take a me a while to get her back to sleep in the middle of the night because she often falls asleep nursing on one side only to wake up a bit later to nurse on the other. She is also a difficult burper (just like Carter) & sometimes it takes me quite some time to get her gas out. After her 5:30AM wake-up, she usually goes back to sleep until about 7:30/8. I'm not sure at this point whether she'll be a paci kid like Holden ended up being or if she'll be a thumb sucker since at this point she isn't a huge fan of the paci. She doesn't startle herself awake often (like Carter did) & thus far we haven't been swaddling her for naps/nighttime as she doesn't seem to need it. Currently she is sleeping with us in our bed, but this is just par for the course as far as our kids are concerned. I don't forsee moving her to her own room for at least a few months or until she is STTN regularly. During the day she naps either in our bed, in the rock n' play or on us. She is definitely a cuddle baby & loves to be held/snuggled while she sleeps. Her favorite place is in daddy's arms in the rocker.

Other: She has stork bites that were present at birth above her left eye & on the back of her head. We try to do some tummy-time lately & currently she can handle about 3-5 mins before she gets totally pissed out & I roll her over. She is a total side sleeper (just like both of her brothers) & if placed on her back to play or sleep she will roll to her side if laid flat. She loves one particular toy on her playmat (different colored balls that make jingling/rattling noises) which she stares at & tries to bat with her hand. She's getting a lot better about actually coming into contact with it. She has given us little smiles here & there while awake & alert, but we're not putting much stock in those at this point, but they do happen about once a day at least when K or I talk to her.

Milestones:

02/14: First Valentine's Day! First long car ride (over an hour) & first time being out & about with Mommy & Daddy in public.

02/16: 2 week WCC. She looks great & is doing very well! Her next appt will be at 1 month old.

Likes: EATING!! Momma, snuggling with Daddy, Carter, & her hands.

Dislikes: Baths, being restrained, pacifiers, & having to wait for food.

Nicknames: Madds, Mad-Mad, Maddie Moo, Sissy, Baby (Holden), Maddie-Lou-Whoo.
