Carter: Week 2

Fighting tummy time

 I can't believe that my baby boy is already two weeks old! I feel like we just brought him home from the hospital yesterday. This week has just gone by way too quickly. It has been very nice for both Carter & Mommy to have Daddy at home this week & we are both very sad that he has to go back to work on Monday already. =( It has been GREAT having 4 hands. I am definitely going to miss it.

Carter had his 2 week Pedi appt on Thursday at 12 days old & unfortunately was NOT back up to his birth weight yet. =( The Pedi did not seem too concerned about it, but Mommy was kind of disappointed. I may take him in to work just to weigh him sometime later this week just to make sure that he is gaining. His weight at the visit was 6 lbs 11.6 oz. & he is only in the 8.43% growth percentile. He did however grow a 1/2 inch since birth & is in the 59.15% growth percentile for his age. He's working on being tall & lanky just like his daddy. =) Otherwise his appt was uneventful. He will go for his next appt at 2 months.

We also had pictures taken of the babe on Thursday. He was in a VERY grumpy mood that day & was mostly awake for the pics so we'll see how those turn out. Fortunately, my friend was the one doing the photos & said we could take more at a later date. Glad to get a few for now though & hopefully a couple of them will turn out okay. She is supposed to get me the CD later this week so we shall see.

Jack is VERY interested

I'm wondering if Carter may be going through a growth spurt this week as well. He seems to be hungry all the time asking to eat every 1.5-2 hours. The only problem is that he doesn't seem to know when to quit & will eat until his belly is overly full--then spits up. Sometimes I think he just likes to have something in his mouth. Again, thank goodness for the paci! Breastfeeding is still going off without a hitch fortunately.

So I think that first week may have been a fluke. =( Unfortunately my poor baby has NOT been sleeping well at night for the last 3 nights. The longest stretch of sleep we have gotten has been 2.5 hours. Last night we went to bed at 10:30 & were up at 12:30 then again at almost 4ish & did NOT go back to sleep until like 7AM. Ick....it was horrible. My poor baby seems to be waking up "for the day" earlier & earlier. His alert time is unfortunately reverting to the EARLY AM. It's nice when you have daddy home to tag team, but I am not looking forward to Monday if he keeps up this routine. I am hoping maybe it's just the growth spurt at work & that he will start sleeping a little bit longer or at least going BACK to sleep in the early AM. Otherwise, I am going to be one tired mommy all week long.

Carter has also seemed to become a lot more alert this week. He loves going on car rides. Even if he is insanely grumpy & fussy as soon as we put him in the car he quiets down & just stares at himself in the little mirror above his carseat. He almost ALWAYS falls asleep in the car as well. Yesterday was the first day we went for a walk as a family & he seemed to really enjoy being in his stroller as well. We have been trying to do more tummy time this week, but he hates it! He tries desperately to roll back over onto his back, but will work on his neck muscles if you hold him on your chest instead. And despite loving when daddy rocks him & walks & when mommy rocks him in the rocking chair---he hates his swing!! We'll continue to try with that one. Also, we started introducing little toys into our playtime routine today & he really seems to like staring at them. He also loves his hands. He may have no control over them most of the time, but he is definitely trying. He really wanted to grab the rattle toy we were playing with today & when he did manage to catch hold of it it went immediately into his mouth. =)
