Carter: Week 4

Oh Hi there friend!
Our little boy was 4 weeks old on Saturday & on Tuesday he will officially be one month. It's amazing!

So major milestones this week include:

-First time in bouncy chair--loves it!! Usually falls asleep though. =)

-First time drinking out of a bottle =(

-First time getting fed by daddy =)

-First time wearing a 0-3 month outfit instead of just newborn clothing

Daddy gave Carter a mohawk
No more comfy place to sleep then on daddy
The biggest & best news of the week though is that on Saturday when I weighed my precious boy he weighed in at a whooping 7lbs. 10.6oz!!! =) YAYAYAYAYAYAY! What a relief to know that all of mommy's efforts & hard work have paid off. Pumping & bottle feeding is twice the work, but if my boy keeps gaining weight & keeps being a happy baby then that is what we will keep doing for now. Also, I have been tracking & writing everything down & all the pumping is definitely increasing my supply. I'm so happy that I have not yet had to resort to taking any weird supplements. I have been eating oatmeal (even if it is a myth--hey, it can't hurt).

Carter is the easiest baby ever when it comes to his food now. He will take a bottle or go back to the breast with no problems. Also, he doesn't even care if his milk is warm or cold, but you better believe if you do not get the food to his mouth fast enough you will hear about it. And quite loudly I might add. =) Also, our boy hates having a wet diaper & I hope this is one of those things that stays that way because hopefully it will mean he will potty train faster. It's amazing how we are beginning to finally understand what his different cries mean. I never thought I would get to this point. =)

Carter is sleeping okay at night. He usually sleeps in about 3 hour stretches which means waking up around 1-1:30 & then again at 6-06:30. Occasionally if mommy is lucky Carter will go back to sleep until 8-8:30, but not so much the last few days. =(  Last night, he did however sleep from 9PM until 2AM which was amazing! I am hoping that eventually we will get him to sleep in at least 4 hour stretches, but at least for now his wake-up times are pretty predictable. He also naps a lot more during the day, but fights his naps very hard!! My poor child seems to think that maybe he is going to miss something if he goes to sleep. He likes to fake us out a lot & pretend to be asleep. It's like we lay him down & his eyes will immediately pop open. It even happens at times when he has been out for at least 15 mins. It's almost as if he remembers he was eating & then is like "Oh shoot! Don't take the food away!!"

Another thing that I find hilarious this week is that every time we have gone to visit or someone comes to visit us...Carter goes to sleep. Even if he was SCREAMING bloody murder about being hungry or needing to be changed moments before. The second that we arrive at someone's house or they arrive to ours...he passes out. Maybe he just hates visiting with people? lol The best defense mechanism to avoid being handled & messed with? Sleep. You know what they say....let sleeping beasts lie. lol =) No one wants to wake a sleeping baby.

  2. Lincoln is 6 weeks today but I still can't differentiate his cries!

Good for you for pumping! You deserve a hearty pat on the back becaue it is a LOT of work and it shows a lot of love and dedication to Carter's health. Amazing!
