Carter: Week 7

Love those baby blues
Here we are at 7 weeks old! Carter weighed in at 9lbs 1.6oz today. Getting bigger & stronger all the time. I'm so glad that he finally is catching up to himself being that he didn't gain anything the first 3 weeks of his life. =(

Milestones this week:

1st night soothing himself back to sleep-- I consider this a major win people. He didn't even cry. =)

1st time being left with a babysitter-- Okay, so it was just with grandpa, but still a big step ya'll. I decided I didn't really want to take baby boy along to my Gyn appt. & fortunately my dad was happy to oblige. It was only for a couple of hours, but still a little sad for mommy. I know I am going to have to leave him with babysitters when I go back to work for way longer periods of time, but it still hurt my heart a little bit. I couldn't wait for my appt. to be over so I could rush back to him.

Baby Legs! <3
1st time wearing baby legs =)--Finally! He didn't really fit into them too well until now. They are still a little big, but I still think they are the cutest thing ever! They will definitely come in handy when he starts scooting around.

1st Semi-laugh-- I don't think it's a TRUE TRUE laugh, but it is the beginning of one. It's pretty darn adorable though & I am pretty sure he does it in a mimicking fashion. We'll see what the next few weeks bring.

 In other news this week:

My kid thinks he can crawl & roll over already ya'll! Whenever I lay him on his tummy for play time he will pick up his legs into a crawling position & will try to scootch himself forward (I must try to capture this in video form). Unfortunately, his top half doesn't want to cooperate & he ends up ramming his head into the carpet. I am afraid he is going to give himself rug burn on his head! lol Also, since he has been pretty mobile since day one, he already thinks that he can roll himself from his back to his tummy. When he has the momentum he can definitely do it. It's craziness! What age are they supposed to be doing this stuff anyways? Isn't it too soon for him to be trying to escape us? I keep trying to tell him he's too little!! Am I crazy? Is anyone else's kid this mobile already?

Enjoying play time
The fight that is nap time continues this week. Mommy & Carter are in the throws of an epic battle that is known as the Paci War. I recognize his tired cry all too well at this point & you would think that going down would be a piece of cake. Ha! You have not met my kid. He will fight until the ends of the earth to avoid falling asleep. He will literally fall asleep & then wake himself back up by any means possible. If the paci falls out of his mouth & he realizes it....watch out! If I am able to catch him before he starts fussing too much he will sometimes stay asleep a little longer. The crib sleeping has been going alright. He definitely doesn't sleep AS long in the crib as he does anywhere else. I MAYBE will get an hour to 45 mins out of him when he naps in his crib. I'm not sure what it is about his nursery, but he does NOT like sleeping in there. I guess we just have to continue our efforts. At this point, we have not made any more attempts at putting him down in his crib at bedtime. Now that he is sleeping from 8/08:30PM until 2:30/3AM I am not messing with the schedule. Daddy & I both enjoy our 4 hour straight stretch of sleep. I just wish it didn't take him more then an hour to fall back to sleep again. At least when he finally does fall back to sleep he will usually sleep for another 3 hours until 6:30/7AM. If I am VERY lucky, I can get him to go back down ONE more time & he will usually let me sleep until 8/9AM.

Things I learned this week:

-Sometimes the only way to get the baby to sleep is to lay down with him, pat his back & put my face RIGHT next to his face. =) I guess he needs to know his momma is close by. We literally took a 3 hour nap in the afternoon the other day forehead to forehead.
-Carter loves to sit on momma or daddy's lap & be read to. He especially loves simple picture books with animals in them. If they pop-up or move they are even better!
-Gas is a b*tch! My poor baby suffers a lot in the AM from this & the only thing that seems to help is laying him on his tummy & patting his back.
