Carter: Weeks 22-24

I'm not going to do stats this time around as not much has changed. We haven't weighed Carter in a while so I could only guess at his weight/length. I think we may do that on Sunday though & I may come back to update with actual figures. =)

Milestones:

5 Months Old
Turning 5 Months Old--I can't believe that my baby is already less then a month away from 6 months! Some days I still feel like we brought him home yesterday. Wow.

First solid food--I guess this is probably the biggest one this week. Carter had been showing signs of readiness for a little while & we figured we'd give it a shot. It went well & we have been going strong since Monday. We started with avocado & he seemed to like that just fine. Today we will start sweet potato!

Avocado Face

6 month growth spurt--Yep, the growth spurt came two weeks earlier as per the usual for my child. He's been pretty miserable the last week+ & is just now finally starting to get back to a normal routine. Albeit, much more hungry then before.

In Other News:

Since the growth spurt, Carter has been one million times more hungry then he was before & I am having a horrible time keeping up with his demands. =(  The 5oz bottles he had been getting while I am at work do not seem to be cutting it. Yesterday, I had to send 3-5oz bottles & 2-6oz bottles. He consumed all of them + another at home before bed with daddy. My mom has complained that he is back to only going around 2 hours or so between feedings. The 6oz bottle seemed to hold him over better & leave him more satisfied so I guess we are upping him to 6oz bottles. He's also getting one "meal" of solids a day after his late afternoon bottle. Unfortunately, that meant that I had to go out today & buy more large sized bottles as we have been using little ones up until now. Oh well, I knew it was coming eventually. I guess I'm saving money in other ways by continuing to nurse/pump & by making my own baby food.

Being Nakey is my Favorite!
Sleep was going great for a little while, but now we are having a few small issues again. Lately, when we put Carter down to nap he will scream bloody murder like we are torturing him. It hurts my heart to no end. =( I HATE listening to hysterical crying from him. It makes me feel like such a bad mommy to let him CIO for the first 5 mins. The other day he regressed back to crying for 45 mins. before he finally settled down to sleep. Fortunately, he is still taking AT LEAST 45 min. naps & has actually been taking a lot longer ones recently. Up to 1.5- 2 hours on some days. He's still not STTN, but does his regular 2AMish wake-up, but then instead of sleeping until 7AM like he had been...he has taken to waking up at 4:45AM is AGAIN. =( Definitely NOT fun on the days that mommy has to wake up for work at 05:30AM. Carter has time to go back to sleep before we head out, but I don't. Losing that extra 45 mins. of sleep has really been hurting me. I hoping that he will revert back to his old schedule soon when he starts getting more food (oz) in during the day.

Carter had stopped babbling so much for a little while since physical feats were seeming more important to him, but now that he's got the hang of almost everything he should at this point (with the exception of unassisted sitting--we're working on it.) he back to being the little chatter box he once was. He loves "talking" again along with blowing raspberries/bubbles & giving "gubby" kisses. We got him a Johnny Jumper & he loves to play in that since he can stand without someone holding on to him. He doesn't quite grasp the concept of jumping yet, but he loves using it as a walking device. =) He is also starting to enjoy his exersaucer more then before as well as sitting up to play. He is very in to being tickled or as we call it "gotten" & playing peek-a-boo. He loves being read to especially books that have a rhythm. He is finally starting to tolerate sitting in his swing & playing for short periods of time, as well as sitting in his high chair.
