Easter Weekend 2014

This year Easter was quite different then it has been in past years for a few reasons. I wasn't working since I stay at home now (obviously) & we didn't get to spend the day with our family. Most of the time being so far away from everyone is not too terrible, but the holidays are definitely a bit tougher. Weekends like this tend to remind me of how homesick I can get, but we definitely tried to make the best of it.

I did a bit of research on the happenings in & around our town prior to this weekend & discovered that the Lions club holds an annual Easter egg hunt for the kids from 0-10 years old. In reality, it was really a hunt for ages 1-10 years old, but H was definitely too little to participate or care anyway. We decided that Carter was definitely old enough this year & planned to attend since the hunt was located less then 5 mins from our house. They were also having an Easter parade prior to the egg hunt, but that was more of a show off your Easter-best walk. =)

K had to work OT on Friday so C & I finally put the stickers up on our living room windows & I attempted to dye eggs with him. The window clings were a total win, he arranged & rearranged them from one window to the other ALL day.

The egg dyeing experience? Not so much...

To start with, I let C drop the dye tablets into the cups & he did fine with this. One in each cup. No big deal...right? Except they only gave us 5 cups & there were 6 tablets. I turned my back on him for two seconds to get another cup out of the cupboard & he had stuck the dye tablet in his mouth!! Just lovely..

Thankfully, the egg dye I bought was only food coloring & was non-toxic, but I still made him rinse his mouth out, brush his teeth & spit, spit, spit. The whole time reiterating that dye tablets are not candies. Oi! So after that mini-Momma-heartattack we got back to business & I let him drop the first egg into the cup. Instead of gently placing the egg in the cup, throwing it in seemed like a FAR better idea. You can imagine how that scenario went as you can see from the lack of shirt & stained towel. He had fun though so I guess that is what matters. I think I learned the valuable lesson that 2.5 years old is just too young (for my kiddo) to dye eggs. Maybe next year, kiddo, maybe next year. =) Needless to say, we ended up with 5 insanely ugly Easter eggs, but a story I will never forget.

Saturday morning was the Egg hunt, we headed out a little bit early to grab some coffee before hand & arrived at the location of the event about 20 mins. early. We put little man in the stroller & headed down to the track. They held the egg hunt this year on the middle school track field & I was happy to see that the whole event was very organized. C would be participating in the 1-3 year old age group & I was so thankful that it wasn't just a free-for-all with a bunch of big kids. Before the hunt started I took C too meet the Easter bunny & although he didn't want to take a picture with her, he did kindly thank her for the Easter egg she gave him.

C's group got to go first & parents were allowed to help point out eggs to the kids & direct them as to what to do. C & I had practiced the night before in the house & he did amazingly well at finding all of the eggs that I had "hidden" so I wasn't too concerned about how he would do even though this was his first time. K walked around with C while I took pictures & stayed with H. The hunt started at 11 & the littlest kids were done in about 5 mins or less. C walked around slowly & took his time whereas the other parents kids did not. C got about 6 eggs in total & was so proud of himself for finding them all on his own. =) They requested that we open all of the eggs before we leave so we were thankful that he only had 7 to deal with. I was even more grateful for the small amount of eggs when I saw that they were mostly filled with money & candy. Of course being two & a half C didn't understand why he wasn't allow to eat all of the candies right now being that they were HIS prizes. Yeah...sorry kid. After the hunt, we returned the empty eggs & basically headed out.

We had other things we needed to do that day out of town & so we stopped home quickly & then got on our way. We ended up getting to Spokane around 2PM & had a nice family lunch at Red Robin. After lunch the boys & I ran a few quick errands while K shipped some packages at the FedEx office. Afterward, we all went to do a bit of shopping & then headed home. The drive home could have gone a bit better since at this point it was pretty evident that C was not feeling well & that H was tired (of being in the car mostly) so the near constant crying & whining the whole way home was not exciting. Thankfully, the boys both settled down quite easily for the night, but C had quite the nasty cough which unfortunately woke H several times. =( We thought that C was having a bout of allergies like K has had this past few weeks, but now we are definitely thinking that he has come down with a cold. =( Unfortunately, that means that it's only a matter of time before both H & I get sick. I just hope it happens & runs it's course before we head home for the weekend on the 2nd. I had already arranged the boy's Easter baskets a few nights before so all I had to do was put them out.

This morning, C woke up fairly early so we cuddled in his bed for a little while so that K & H could continue to sleep a bit more. Everyone was up around 8AM & we all came out in the living room to see what the EB had brought. C picked up the first thing he saw (Diesel 10 from Thomas) & immediately ignored the rest of his basket whereas H dug right in! lol H cleared out his basket before C even looked at a second item...definitely a good indication of their very different personalities. Surprisingly, H definitely got the concept at only 6 months old. lol

After their baskets, we let them play for a bit & the put H down for a nap. Unfortunately, he only slept for about 30 mins. Ick! K cooked us all a wonderful breakfast & then we all spent a little time outside. After a bit we headed to the store to pick-up dinner supply & a few other grocery items as well as some cough medicine for C. We let the boys play for bit longer & then C went down for a nap while the rest of us had a light lunch. Fortunately, H took a much better afternoon nap & slept for a couple hours. We prepped dinner & I headed back to the store for a few items we had forgotten. Oi! We ate dinner as a family shortly after I arrived home & then I did dishes while K took care of bath time for both boys. After dinner we call our families & it was so wonderful to get to talk with them & to facetime with K's grandparents, parents & aunt/uncle. We watched a movie as a family until the boys got tired & then we put them down for the night. Both boys had no trouble going down & I'm sure we will all sleep fairly well tonight due to the busy weekend. We are so blessed & even if we couldn't be with our extended family I am so happy that I got to spend the whole weekend with all of my boys. I simply could not have asked for more.
