Life with Holden: 7 Months

Stats:

Weight: 15 pounds, 2 ounces on our home scale, but it's never right so who freaking knows!

Length: Probably still 27.5ish inches.

Diaper: Size 3 in disposables, Huggies Little Movers & third snap, lowest rise in our cloth.

Clothing: Completely out of all 3 & 3-6 month clothing! lol We have him in both 6 & 9 month stuff along with a very few 6-12 month items (Baby Gap/Old Navy).

Shoes: 2.5, his 2s are too small & his 3s are too big.

Milestones:

05/01: First time in the convertible car seat.

05/05: 6 month WCC (just a little bit late) & injections. Basically, the kid is a peanut weight-wise & is in the 2% according to WHO. UGH! I hate having to worry about my kiddos growth, but my Pedi didn't seem concerned & we know Carter was the same way (although was almost 2 lbs. heavier & almost a full inch shorter..wow!). Basically she just said don't hold back on the food & to let the kid eat, eat, eat...which he already does. We will see where we are at 9 months, I guess. He got two injections & an oral this visit. He did very well & didn't even start to cry until the second injection was given. He only fussed for a few minutes & did well with our long drive home that day (slept a lot).

05/06: Started doing a modified army crawl. It's SO funny the way he pulls himself around with his arms & pushes his body forward with his legs, I don't even know what to call what he is doing.

05/10: First parade. He didn't really care about the parade one way or the other, but he did well & fell asleep on the walk home.

05/11: First Mother's Day. He was a TOTAL grouch due to his usual bad combination of teething & gas, but I did get a few smiles & some sweet moments. Love that kid to pieces, regardless!

05/11: First time going to church/First time being watched by a stranger. He did AWESOME! Considering how grumpy he was that morning. I thought he would freak out at the idea of being left alone in the nursery with a stranger (let alone a male stranger), but he did amazing! Even when I checked on the boys in the middle of the service the nursery aide told me that he only cried once when he fell over from sitting & was easily comforted by her. No stranger anxiety at all, praise the Lord!

05/13: First time sitting in a highchair at a restaurant. He LOVED it & the fact that he got to eat food as well was a bonus. The kid LOVES to eat!

05/14: First time in the baby swimming pool. The verdict is honestly out on whether he enjoyed it or not. I think the water was a bit cold for his taste, but he did like sitting in his little chair & batting at the inflatable shark that is on one end of the pool.

Nursing: Going so, so well. Despite eating solids with gusto, he still loves his milk. We are continuing to nurse on demand & he's usually wanting to nurse every 2.5 hours on average, but it still varies daily. He getting a little bit better about being distracted, but I still try to feed him away from outside stimulation when I can.

Solids: We got the go ahead from our Pedi to go ahead with any type of food we'd like to give & that we don't really have to do anything in any sort of age chart. She even said that berries & peanut butter are fine because studies show that if a kiddo is going to be allergic to something they are going to be allergic no matter what age it is introduced. We will still wait on PB for a bit just because of the consistency, but it's good to know that we only have to avoid cow's milk (as a drink) & honey until he's one. It's amazing to have so many more options since we are doing BLW.

Oh gosh, we've kind of gone crazy with the food since we got the go-ahead from the Pedi, all conservative methods have been thrown out the window! He's had pizza crust, toast, homemade hamburger macaroni, cheese & chicken quesadilla, crockpot chicken stuffing, strawberries, watermelon, nectarines, rice & guacamole (with cilantro & onions). He will try anything still & loves pretty much everything so far. His favorite is still avocado though. =) He still doesn't have a developed pincher grasp (obviously), but he is getting better & better about figuring out what to get food to his mouth. He is definitely learning & consuming a lot more then just a week ago. It's pretty awesome to watch.

Sleep: One step forward, two steps back...always! I honestly can't even say how often he wakes at night because it varies so, so much. And since he weighs so little, I do not want to deny him food. When he wakes up, I assume he needs the nourishment so I go ahead & feed him. He's still sleeping with us the majority of the night & USUALLY naps in his crib. We've been a bit more lenient lately due to the painful teething/gas situations & honestly at this point I just want him to sleep (no matter where it is). We have a bedtime routine (which doesn't really do any good) & haven't really been super strict about sleep training (due to the above). We're going to be at home for a full month in about a week & a half where he will be sleeping with us anyway so I see no point in pushing it until we're back home. He's just a mess right now & I'll take what I can get. I'm just thankful he goes right back to sleep after nursing at night/in the early AM. He's still going down for the night around 6:30PM & is up for the day around 8/9AM usually. He takes one to two naps daily ranging from 30 minutes to 2 hours depending on the day.

Elimination: Why does this still have to be a section?! Seriously, I don't know what his deal is, but I don't ever remember C having this many issues still at this age. I brought it up with his Pedi & she just said that solids should help. I guess just maturity & more intake should help...? I pray it will. I've tried cutting out my coffee & it may be helping a little bit, but not much. Some days are definitely better then others, but I feel like there hasn't really been much change. He's still super gassy some days & still pretty irregular. Poor kiddo. =(

Health: Has been a lot better this last few weeks. He's completely over his cold & he handled his 6 month injections like a pro. Unfortunately, teething seems to be in full force & I can't believe that his top teeth have not broken through yet. He is chewing EVERYTHING, drooling & has been in obvious pain some nights.

Social: He's done just fine in all social interactions the last few weeks. He only had a tiny bit of anxiety with my mom for a second when we went home, but got over it almost immediately. He never had any further problems the rest of our trip. And also as mentioned above, he did just fine in our new church's nursery with the aides as well. He still smiles & flirts with anyone who notices him while we are out & about. He loves when people talk to him & will often share a sweet smile with strangers. His brother is still his absolute favorite person even when he is ignoring him or being not so nice to him. He just has this adoration for him that can only be from little brother to big brother. It is so cute! I just wish that Carter appreciated it more. He thinks that C is hilarious & is fascinated by everything that he does. He's been a lot more needy & whiny this past couple weeks as far as I am concerned & gets very upset if I leave him alone during the day for more then a few minutes. He has been very demanding of my attention & wants me to sit with him while he plays or lay with him while he sleeps. I love that he loves me so much, but I won't be sorry when this phase passes. He still loves all animals (especially dogs), other babies/kids & his reflection in the mirror. He also REALLY loves certain stuffed toys that he has including his wind-up giraffe, his brother's giant tiger & any/all puppets. He still isn't big on talking/babbling, but HE loves loves loves to scream. Oh yes, I've finally gotten it on film & it is hilarious. Thank goodness it is a happy noise instead of an angry noise.

Physical: Oi Vey! He is ALL OVER THE PLACE. He sits like a pro, but very rarely stays that way. He often will go from sitting to on his belly & then he is moving around like crazy. He rolls like crazy & pulls himself around with his arms/pushes his body off the floor with his legs. It is NOT like crawling really at all, but I have no idea what to call what he does. It definitely gets him where he wants to go though. We've been without the exersaucer this last couple weeks (it's at my parents), but he definitely enjoyed the one at church. We aren't using the swing or Bumbo chair anymore since he HATES being stationary (unless he's eating), but he still likes to jump in his Johnny jumper. His favorite thing currently is being in a standing position & he can hold himself up for long periods of time if we stand him up & he's hanging on to something. He loves to practice being a "big boy" and hanging onto the couch or the top of our laundry basket. His favorite toys of the moment are any & all balls, play keys & his wind-up giraffe. He is still putting everything into his mouth (obviously) & chews, chews, chews. We definitely need to start baby proofing more because of this. He still pulls my hair every day as well as continues to grab our eyes, noses & faces. I'm still trying to teach him that this hurts us, but of course he doesn't understand just yet. Only reinforcement over time as he learns & grows will be key.

Likes: EATING! His brother, being nakey, bath time, nursing, his momma, Jack (our dog), chewing on EVERYTHING, being tickled, playing peek-a-boo, his wind-up giraffe

Dislikes: Wearing clothes, diaper changes, being stationary, being in his car seat, being alone, napping or sleeping in general, having to wait for ANYTHING, having gas, teething
