Carter: 3 Years Old

Stats:

Weight: 30 pounds, 2 ounces (32%)

Length: 3 feet, 1.25 inches (39%) (I'm guessing he's a tad taller since he was scrunching down so much to try to avoid the stick touching his head)

Diapers: This is no longer a section!! Woot woot!! My boy is fully potty-trained ya'll! =) He does sleep in an overnight training pant still, but no more diapers!

Clothing: He is all over the map with summer clothes, but most of the stuff we have is either 2T or 3T sized this year. I have a feeling he is going to be able to wear this year's stuff next year as well though. A lot of his shorts are still WAY too big around the waist. Sadly, K even accidentally put him in a pair of H's shorts the other day & those were sized 6-12 from Old Navy. They fit him just fine... Also, his swim trunks from last year that are size 24 months fall off his butt. Yep..

Shoes: Size 8.

Milestones:

I know I got back & forth on this a lot, but it's so hard sometimes to pin down exact dates for C, so I will try my very best to remember it all...

05/17: First trip to the ER & first x-rays. He was okay & it was only sprained (thankfully), but it was quite the exciting experience for all of us none-the-less. s

05/20: Officially started potty training & never looked back! =)

05/31: First time sleeping in his own room & his own bed while away from home. He slept in his own little room while we were on our beach trip & it was great for all of us. Also his first time flying a kite. =)

06/25: Started drinking from a regular cup full time except when in the car. Bout time, eh?!

07/31: 3 year WCC. On-track for growth & no vaccs. Yay!!

08/01: First real bicycle. He absolutely loves it & learning how to ride it. So.much.fun.

08/04: First time swimming in a lake. Yep, seriously! We've pretty much stuck to pools, but he loved it way more then I expected he would.

Sleep: Yeah, I suppose this is still a section. =) He's been doing amazingly in his twin sized bed & has gotten a lot more independent about sleep the last few months. He's slept in his own room, in his own bed on every vacation we've taken this summer without issue. He's still sleeping through the night from about 8:30PM until around 7AM unless he's sick or something. He hasn't been falling out of bed at home anymore, so that's been good & he does not wake up when his brother does in the middle of then night or in the early AM. He does nap occasionally either at home or more often in the car, but does not have a set nap time during the day. We tend to base around his mood toward mid-afternoon. He ALWAYS fights taking the nap, but usually falls asleep easily & then is really grumpy & mad when we wake him up an hour or so later. He's taken to liking to have something to cuddle with when he goes to bed & will often ask for a stuffed animal usually his rabbit or his brother's dinosaur. He also likes to "get cozy" with his blankets. We don't have as set of a bedtime routine for him anymore, but we still say prayers every night & I will occasionally still sing to him. We also try to read books most nights, but occasionally we will let him watch a show or play a bit longer instead.

Eating Habits: It's been A LOT of push & shove over the last few months with getting him to eat anything he even remotely *thinks* he doesn't like, but the last week or so has been a ton better. He's slowly coming out of the "picky toddler" phase & into the "I'm constantly hungry" phase. He has been eating a lot more lately & trying new things. He is finishing the entirety of the majority of his meals & then is asking for more food. He is still drinking only water & milk at home with the occasional juice or smoothie thrown in. If we get ice cream in the car as a treat, he will have a milkshake. He still has not had any soda or other sugary drinks & I'd like to keep it that way as long as possible. His favorite foods are still fruits & breads, but he is slowly coming around to more meat. He also adores peanut butter & is definitely a huge fan of sweets (although we try to somewhat limit those). If it were up to him completely, he would only eat snack foods all day (lucky for me it isn't). He started drinking from a regular cup & does absolutely fine with that. I have no clue what I was so worried about all of this time. He is given utensils 100% of the time & I would venture to say that he uses them about 75% of the time now when reminded to. We are still cutting up a lot of his food into manageable bites, but what he can manage has gotten a lot bigger then before. He enjoys sitting in his booster & being able to get out of his own seat without help. He loves to wash his hands & I help him do so after every meal since he HATES being sticky. He still wears a bib a lot of the time while we're at home, but he is such a neat eater that it almost isn't necessary anymore.

Activity/Play/Learning:

He is still such a great littler helper & loves to help me with things around the house. He is still doing everything I mentioned in my 2.75 post, but he is also letting the dog back into the house now after I let him out & making sure that all of the bedrooms doors are shut when we leave the house. He is getting a lot better about retrieving & putting things away when asked of him and he loves to help me dust & carry grocery bags in from the car. I am going to enjoy this phase while it lasts! He loves to run, climb, jump & dance, basically anything active is good at the moment. He still isn't big on wanting to play sports type games (baseball, football, soccer, ect), but he does enjoy pretending to work on cars & riding his bike. He also ADORES swimming again right now & probably wishes that summer would never end so that he can keep swimming almost every day. Playing at the park is also a favorite & his new love is still the merry-go-round. How he manages to stay on forever & never get dizzy is beyond me. He's finally getting the hang of his colors & knows a lot more shapes then he did previously. He can count backwards from at least 5 & is just so smart it amazes me. The things that he is able to comprehend & put together in his mind seriously astound me. He understands a lot more then he is able to communicate & that's a lot! He is still definitely a talker & he still has times where we can't quite understand him because his brain is moving faster then his mouth. His imaginative play has sky-rocketed the last few months & the scenarios he comes up with for his trains & is animals crack me up. I love just sitting & listening to the dialog & adventures that he comes up with for them.
