Life with Holden: 10 Months

Stats:

Weight: 17 pounds (on our home scale)

Length: 28.75 inches (& I measured closer to 28.5 actually so...)

Diaper: Size 3 in disposables (Huggies Little Movers), Size small in Little Swimmers, & third snap, lowest rise in our cloth.Yes, still. I hoping by 10.5-11 months we will be able to finally change the snap setting.

Clothing: Oh my little baby... He is finally growing out of his 6 month onesies (too short), but shorts & t-shirts fit just fine in 6 month size. He's in some 9 month stuff (Mostly pjs & shirts. Most pants are still too big) & a very few 6-12 month items from Gap/Old Navy. I did pull out a few of C's old 12 month sized shorts & those have been fitting okay if he's wearing a CD. Thank God for a fluffy bum!!

Shoes: I'm thinking he's still in a 3 right now, but the only shoes he's worn lately are his sandals. I will have to check if his size 3 Converse will fit or not (they were C's). I hope they do, but I won't be surprised if they don't. He has a pair of Moccs that is supposedly a size 4, but they almost don't fit him anymore so I'm not sure how true to size they really are.

Milestones:

--Officially started pulling up on anything & everything. He has no sense of danger at all.
--Has started cruising & trying to stand without holding onto anything.
--Has started to say Dada finally. =)
--Master at changing positions. Aka crawling to sitting, sitting to standing, ect.

Nursing:

It's been going a lot better this last couple weeks with only a few instances of refusal on H's part. The only times that I have had to pump have been during travel & one afternoon when he was refusing for some unknown reason. Otherwise it's been mostly smooth sailing & he's eating on a pretty consistent schedule now. He usually eats around 6:30-7AM, 10:30/11AM, 2:30/3PM, & 7/7:30PM. He has also been eating around 10:30PM & then again around 2:30/3AM so obviously he's still nursing A LOT. Pretty much every 4 or so hours round the clock... I would complain about that "round the clock" part, but I'm just so glad he's back to nursing normally & since he's still so underweight I will feed him all night long forever if I have to. Okay, maybe not forever, but you know what I mean. =) He will also take a bottle when needed & will usually drink *most* of it without a problem, although he does still prefer his milk ice cold if it's from a bottle.

Solids:

Still loving food so much, but he is definitely starting to become more picky about certain things. We still offer anything & everything with lots of variety in there, but he is showing preferences for certain foods for sure. His current favorites are toast, chicken & anything mexican. He is definitely more of a meat lover then his brother ever was & becoming a lot more picky about what fruit he wants to eat. He, however has no problems with veggies & seems to love them all equally. Score! Now if only it would stay this way.. He has a well developed pincher grasp & is still not a big fan of the sippy cup. He prefers to drink from our glasses/water bottles if he wants to have a drink of water. We've been testing him out with straws lately, but he hasn't quite gotten that figured out just yet. He still hates waiting for food & get very upset if food is not waiting for him on his tray or placed there immediately after he is. I've started getting food ready while he plays & putting him in his highchair at the last possible minute before meals begin to stave off some of this frustration on his part. This process seems to work out fairly well for all of us. He's still eating 3 meals daily with the occasional snack thrown in & drinking nothing but breast milk & occasionally a little bit of water. We are still avoiding peanut butter & honey until he turns one. He still has no teeth, but handles everything just fine without them, even larger bites.

Sleep:

It had been going so well... but now it's back to being a little crappy again. I have a feeling we will never sleep well until he finally gets some teeth in. Right now, he's going down very restlessly around about 7/7:30PM & will usually sleep about 45 mins-1 hour before he wakes again crying. He often will sit himself up or even stand up in his crib & then cry until we come in to lie him down again & replace his paci. This will happen NUMEROUS times some nights until I nurse him again around 10:30/11PM. He will usually sleep pretty well after that until about 2:30/3AM when he nurses again, then again at 6:30/7AM. He will usually go back to sleep after then until around 9AM. He still has his pacifier & probably will for quite some time as we have no plans to take it away anytime soon. We have a small fan in their room which is on constantly for white noise & two different soothers including a FP one attached to the crib & the Twilight turtle on the shelf. He loves to snuggle up with blankets & has a few in his crib on any given night/nap time.

Health:

He's been very healthy other then on-going teething issues. He is definitely being put through the paces & I feel so terrible for him because he STILL has no teeth. Every.single.time we think "oh this is it!" nothing happens. I am done trying to predict when those suckers are going to pop through...

Social:

Oh gosh, he is so sweet & such a little brat at the same time. He is so funny, but super serious as well. He is definitely ALL his momma personality-wise & I never dreamed I would have a little mini me who was a boy. He is not shy at all when it comes to other children or babies & if they have something he wants he is not afraid to take it. He is quite the little aggressor when it comes to other kids, but especially his brother. We are so lucky that C is as easy-going as he is otherwise we would be in trouble with these two. H is definitely the instigator a lot of times & I see that becoming a huge problem in the future if we go about handling our reactions the wrong way. He gets very easily frustrated if he can't do something that he wants to do & whines a lot if he wants attention & no one is giving it to him. I can already see the start of what are probably epic tantrums to come as we move into toddlerhood. He still does not like to cuddle & definitely is much more the independent type. He does like to play with us or his brother, but he does very well with solo play as well. He is able to entertain himself for a lot longer & a lot more happily then C was at his age. He loves animals, but specifically thinks that our dog, Jack is the greatest animal ever. He has been dealing with a bit of separation anxiety in the last few weeks & cries when I leave him with anyone other then K. He hasn't been doing as well in the church nursery because of this & tends to be a lot more needy with the helpers then he was previously.

Physical:

His whole life right now is basically dedicated to trying to learn to walk. Yep...just 10 months old & is convinced that he can do anything! He is pulling up on everything, cruising all around & climbing on anything he can get onto. Oi! He's basically a wild man. He also is still crawling & is SUPER fast. We put up a baby gate between the playroom & kitchen, but it doesn't stop him from exploring the rest of the house now. I've been having to keep doors shut to every room down the hall just to keep him out. He loves to pull the nightlights out of the light sockets & try to chew on them or chase them around like a ball. He has started trying to crawl around or "swim" in the bathtub now & doesn't seem to notice or care if the water is too deep for him. He is definitely my little adventurer. His new favorite past-time is climbing on top of the treadmill & then usually diving off face first. Oi! He literally has no sense of danger right now & doesn't seem to care all that much if he falls or hurts himself. He still loves to wrestle & play with his brother & he is also really liking being outside lately as well. The park is finally fun for him & he really likes to swing & slide these days.

Likes: Swimming, bath time, being nakey, swinging, Jack, Momma, nursing (yay!), drinking from a cup (Ice Water), chewing on everything, trying to walk, Daddy, his brother, snuggly blankets, his paci, & other babies.

Dislikes: Diaper changes, being unable to do things by himself, having to wait for ANYTHING, going to the doctor, the sun in his eyes, wearing socks or shoes, having to get dressed
