Halloween Trunk-or-Treat

We moved here in February of this year so every holiday we've spent here has been a new experience. We weren't sure what the happenings around here were like for Halloween so after speaking with a friend (who moved to town in January of this year) we decided to start with our church family & see what their take on the holiday was. After speaking with the leader of the children's ministries at our church we somehow had ended up volunteering to be in charge of putting on a Fall Festival. Yep..

Our original idea for the Festival was much larger then what finally ended up being, but what can you say other then volunteers can really MAKE or BREAK an event. In this case the initial lack of interest broke this one...

Regardless, despite a million hiccups along the event ended up going pretty well when all was said & done. The event was scheduled ON Halloween as chosen by the leaders in our church & was slated to go from 4-6PM. During the planning process the event got cut down to 5-6PM which sounded great in theory, but actually wasn't.

Halloween itself was pretty low-key. K took the day off fortunately & his buddy (and business partner), Zack was in town. I had to meet my friend at the store in the morning to shop for the food they were donating & then mostly hung out at home preparing for the event. We headed out to the church around 4PM after taking some photos in front of the house.

K dropped me off so I could help set-up & ran off to the bank with the boys. After they came back they started setting up the trunk while I stayed to help inside. It was sooo hectic! I tried to get C engaged in the activities at much as possible without having to supervise him (which was super difficult), but he did get his hand painted as well as do a small scratch leaf art project.

H mostly hung out in the trunk with K. And Carter sat at the table with his friend MaKenna (pictured above) who's mom was also in-charge of the event along with me. After a little bit of dinner & when things inside started to die down, we headed outside for the Trunk-or-Treat portion of the event. I took C around for the first lap & then manned the car while K took C around for the second lap.

At this point, H was losing it & the event was beginning to wind down. We headed inside to help clean up & clear everything away. We ended up just coming straight home after the event as it was getting pretty cold & H was DONE. C's pumpkin bucket was so full & we had so much EXTRA candy that we just couldn't justify doing the door-to-door thing afterward.

The boys stayed up until about 8PM & then both passed out hard after all of the excitement & activity. Next year will definitely be a lot easier & a lot more fun for both of them! We even let C have 2 pieces of his candy that night which he fully enjoyed. H didn't collect any candy this year....
