The envelope system is working really, really well. Not to mention coupon usage! We bought Carter's new big boy (stage 2) car seat today & saved $40.00 with coupons. Not to mention, it cost us absolutely nothing from our bank account since I used baby envelope money! I definitely consider that a success! =) For those who are curious, we got the Safety 1st Air 65 Protect XL. It seriously looks like a recliner chair! We tested it out in the store & little man seemed to love it. Not to mention, it has the ability to recline which sold me on it. Carter sleeps in the car A TON due to our overly long commute & I absolutely h.a.t.e. it when his poor little head is hanging forward. It makes me feel super unsafe & it looks extremely uncomfortable for him. We got insanely lucky with the coupon, no tax, & a replacement discount. The car seat has gotten great reviews & is normally around $190-210. We got it for a mere $100.96. =) Pretty proud of this buy!
The next thing I plan to do with the envelope system is pay off our Les Schwab bill. One small bill at a time is one step closer to me staying at home. We have also started using the envelope system to save for our vacation in September & I hope to not have to pay anything from our bank account by the time our trip rolls around.
This week, I am going to continue on with the envelope system as well as more organized meal planning. Before, I was just picking recipes & then buying the goods to try them out. This week, I am going to meal plan based on what we already have on hand & then shop for the remaining. My goal is to spend only $100 or less at the grocery store. Coupons & shopping sales will definitely help with this. I am by no means a crazy coupon lady, but if I can learn to save us more money, I will. There is no reason at all that we should realistically need to spend more then $100 weekly on groceries for two adults. I also want to try to eliminate a lot of the waste in our house. If I buy a particular fresh fruit or veggie, I am going to find a way to use it!!
Wish me luck ya'll! Tomorrow starts the inventory of our kitchen & then meal planning for the week. I'll keep ya posted on how the whole process is going next week.
