Carter: 12.5 months update

Stats:

Weight: 21 lbs. even

Length: 30.25 inches

Clothing/Shoes: (9-)12 months, some 6-12 months & the rare 12-18 month outfit. He's gonna continue on in this size for a bit since he's still a bit of a peanut weight-wise. We've grown out of our size 3 shoes & since we have no size 4s we just moved into the size 5s. Although, C still rarely wears shoes anyway.

Diapers: Size 4

Milestones:

08/08--C learned to say banana, ty ty (what we sometimes call my little brother), & candy (yeah, don't ask).

08/12--C learned to say all done & finally signed the word "more" for the first time! =) I knew he'd get it eventually if we stuck with it. Yay for baby sign!

08/12--First time walking with his push-toy on his own & unassisted. He hasn't quite gotten it down & it tends to get away from him, but this is a major improvement over no interest at all.

08/13--1 year WCC and 5 shots! Yikes! He did well though & took them like a champ. He only cried for 3 mins. & then he was over it. =)

08/14--C started saying "hot" today as well as "sit." I swear the kid repeats anything he hears. Guess it's time to be more careful around him with language (not that I don't try to already) C also learned to get off the bed & couch by himself feet first. It's not graceful just yet, but he does it safely. We are still working on going down the stairs.

08/18--First date night out for mommy & daddy ALONE! I know, it's terrible, but true. The other two times we've been out without C we were with other people. It was nothing big, we just went to dinner, but it was so nice. We'll be doing it more often.

08/19--First time feeding himself with a fork. =) He actually used the fork to scoop some food out of his bowl & put it in his mouth. It's still a work in progress, but he did it!! We've even started giving him his own plate of food instead of a bowl because he seems to respond better & eat more with this method.

08/20--First time trying peanut butter. He liked it quite a bit & thus far no sign of a peanut allergy.

In Other News:

Nursing: We're still on it. From what I can tell, C has no intention of weaning himself anytime soon. Most of the time when he nurses it is purely for comfort sake, but I'm okay with that. I enjoy our mommy & little man time while it lasts. He won't always need me & only me. Our sessions average between 3-5 times a day still. Most days it's an early morning, late morning, late afternoon & before bedtime. I am still pumping 2 times while at work, but hope to get it down to once sometime in September.

Solids/WCM: Oi! Seriously don't get me started on food. C is like a "flavor of the week" kid. This past few weeks, it's waffles, bread, puffs & fruit/veggie pouches. EVERYTHING else is hit or miss. Some days he will eat it & some days he won't. He loves drinking water from his straw sippy, but refuses to drink WCM. He will only drink WCM from a bottle. He is, however drinking 100% WCM while at my parents/IL's houses. Fortunately, the switch over was painless. I think giving up the bottle will be a bit harder. Ugh.

Sleep: Pretty much the usual. Some good nights intermixed with some terrible nights! He still sleeps 9-11 hours overnight & takes 1-2 naps daily totalling about 3 hours. My opinion of a good night at this point is one where C does not wake me up at 3AM. Bedtime ranges anywhere between 8PM-10PM...yeah, we need to work on some consistency here. C rarely ever fits going down anymore.

Play/Activities: C still hasn't taken any steps on his own yet, but I do think that he may be getting closer to walking. Just the last few weeks he has finally started pushing his push toys around by himself. He has also increased his cruising ten fold & will finally walk with us holding onto just one of our hands instead of two. It seems that he may be following in both Momma & Daddy's footsteps on this one. I asked my mom the other day when I started walking & she checked my baby book & I was over 13 months old. MIL always tells us that K took FORVER to walk. C is still crawling & climbing like a mad-man. His new favorite activity is to open & close all the drawers around our house. Fortunately, he figured out quickly that using the handles to do this is the least painful option. He also likes to pull all the books off our bookshelves & "read" them. His current favorites are any that make noises or have tabs that you lift up to reveal something. He still is babbling & talking non-stop. I swear at times he is legitimately trying to say real phrases like "I do it" & "what's that?" He repeats these two over & over again. And when he says the thing that sounds like "what's that?" he is usually pointing at something. It's too soon to really know for sure, but I just go along with it. He's also started doing this hilarious growl-like voice that makes him sounds like a gremlin. It's creepy, but really, really funny. If he's still doing it a ton tomorrow I will take a video.
