Dear Carter.
Tomorrow you will be 18 months! I cannot believe that you have been on this earth with your daddy & I for a year & a half already. Some days it still seems like we just brought you home from the hospital & other days it seems like you've been with us forever. I cannot remember what we used to do with our time before you came along. You are keeping us very busy these days! You are nearly always on the move & are into EVERYTHING you can get your hands on. You climb on everything & you are still sticking everything in your mouth (food or not).
You are so cute & snuggly right now & I am sucking it up while I can. You give hugs now on demand or even when momma pretends to cry. You will even occasionally pat my back while we are hugging because I do that to you. =) You are definitely the sweetest little boy ever. You love hugging all of your stuffed animals & you will always say "awwww..cuddle cuddle" while doing it. You even try to cuddle with Jack despite his many protests.
Your favorite activities these days (other then climbing & getting into things) include being tickled, making funny noises (and faces) & pointing out everyone's body parts. You now know eyes, nose, ears, mouth, hair, toes & stomach (tummy to you). You're favorite thing to do is lift up your shirt or daddy's shirt or mommy's shirt & point to our belly buttons. You think it's fascinating that we all have these. =) You are such a little copy cat & love to copy words & sounds that we or your toys make. Your current favorites are saying "ah-choo", "honk honk", & "shhhh". You find all of these hilarious when you say them. You also have started to "fall down" on purpose & then say "uh-oh" or "oh no" every time! You also do this in an attempt to make people laugh. You love to dance & sing. Your current favorite songs include the theme song from Jake & the Neverland Pirates & Mickey Mouse clubhouse Hot Dog dance.
Cute things you do lately that I don't want to forget include crossing your ankles while in your high chair, you almost ALWAYS sit like this. It's so cute, I love it! When we are nursing you will often times give me your palm so that I can kiss it. You've been doing this since you were very little, but I don't know if I've mentioned it here before. You are so-so-so smart that sometimes it baffles me just how much you really understand. You sat down by yourself the other day with your book & pointed to pictures while talking to yourself. I was listening & watching you while folding your laundry & you knew what the majority of the pictures in the book were. It's insane! You know so many words now that I can no longer keep track of everything you can say. People are amazed by how much you are talking now & always think that you are at least 2 or 3 years old. You came into the bathroom last week while I was straightening my hair & you pointed right at the straightener & said "hot." The same day, we heard a dog barking outside & I said out loud to myself "what the heck was that?!" & you just calmly said "doggie." Things like this are happening more & more often now. You truly are turning into more of a big boy & less of a baby every day.
You've started to get frustrated a lot more easily lately while playing & you can't do something by yourself. You get upset far more easily then you used to & you throw a lot more tantrums then before. I am definitely not looking forward to getting more into this stage of toddler-hood. You are still a very good, easy-going kiddo most of the time though & for that we are grateful. You had your third haircut this month & it is an adventure every time. You didn't really enjoy the experience this time & even cried while the stylist was using the razor to buzz the back of your hair. You got pretty angry & wanted me to pick you up. You did however, enjoy your first sucker afterward. =)
You haven't been sleeping well as of late & we're not sure if it's because your teeth are taking FOREVER to come in or if it's just a toddler thing. I'm hoping that you get over this soon because I miss my good sleeper. You also haven't been eating the best, which could also be because of your teeth or again because you're a picky toddler. Either way, you are definitely going through some new phases. These are ones I will not be sad to see the end of.
You still love reading & your favorites currently include all of your Thomas books. You will bring daddy or I books anytime of the day & demand that we sit down & read. You will also sit down quietly in your room & look at books by yourself. You also still love to color & have gotten a lot better at it then you were before. You love to play with water & bathtime is still one of your favorite times of the day. We're trying to teach you how to wash your hands & have been practicing this with you a lot the last few weeks.
We just found out a few short days ago that you are going to be a big brother! You don't really understand right now, but I just know that you are going to be amazing with our new little one. And your little brother or sister will be lucky to have you as their big sibling. =) I know this will be a big change in all of our lives, but I know you will be able to handle it in the same go-with-the-flow attitude that you take with everything else.
You truly are amazing kiddo & daddy & I can't believe how much we lucked out when God made us yours. You are such a blessing.
Love you,
Momma
