Life with Holden: Week 8

Stats:

Weight: We didn't weigh him today, but my guess is a little over 11 pounds.

Diapers: Size 2s in disposables. Have not started using cloth just yet. I need to build a bit bigger stash first if I'm gonna have two in cloth full-time. 

Clothing: 0-3 & 3 month sized clothing. Most things are starting to fit him well (especially his ON stuff), some of his Cherokee brand stuff is still a little big & so are his overalls.





MILESTONES:

12/05: Celebrated Daddy's Birthday. Weighed in at 11 pounds exactly on the clinic baby scale. First time being introduced to a rattle toy. He was able to hold onto it all by himself & he loved the noise that it made when Momma shook it for him.

12/06:  First Snow. Unfortunately, we only got a dusting so it wasn't worth venturing outside, but still exciting!

12/07: First time in the baby swing. Was hoping it would prove to be sleep inducing. Fail! The swing has definitely won more battles in the days since though. =) First night sleeping in the Rock n' play over night. He did well & went right back to sleep in it with each wake-up. The next night didn't quite go as well, but we're working on it.

12/08: First semi-laugh. And it wasn't even when I was attempting to get him to smile or anything. It was *surprise* when he was about to get some food. lol!! He was so excited that it just came out. Just like with C, it wasn't a true, true laugh, but it was there. I can't wait until he's laughing out loud all of the time for real.

12/10: First time in the Bumbo. Hates it!! =)

Nursing: Nothing much new going on. He's still eating every 2-2.5 hours during the day & going 4.5 hours maximum at night during his longest stretch. He definitely does NOT skip meals. He still does not like to burp in the middle of eating & gets very vocal about when he wants to eat. He will fuss until the food is literally in his mouth. Sometimes just the suggestion of food will get him going. He will make grunting & "uhuhuh" noises until he's eating. He will even start to smile & coo now when he knows he's about to get food. He definitely is an eater!! We're still having some issues with gas this week, but it seems to be slightly improved over the previous two. He's also been pretty irregular this week & goes anywhere between 3-0 times daily. I feel bad for the poor little guy because you can tell he's trying so hard & nothing comes out. =( I'll be happy when his system finally fully matures & he is more regular.

Sleep: Definitely fighting it more during the day this week, but not to the extent his brother used to. He is staying awake for longer periods of time as well & isn't really on any particular schedule. We transitioned him back into the Rock n' Play this week for nighttime sleep & it seems to be going okay thus far. We plan to keep at it. Still hasn't given me anything longer then a 4.5 hours stretch at the most & it's usually about 3-4 on average. The 4.5 was on a GOOD night...lol. We did start a bedtime routine in the last few days & although neither boy is really cooperating on the set bedtime we are going to stick with it. Hopefully, H will start falling asleep earlier with some consistency & routine. We will get there eventually. 

Other: He is such a warm bodied little guy that he loves to hang out in just his diaper. I won't let him do it too often for too long (since it's winter & all), but I swear he is at his happiest sans clothing. This could explain why he loves the bathtub so much because it's the only time he gets to be really comfortable. =) He is also starting to enjoy his playmat even more & can now bat at his hanging toys with ease. He also loves looking at his reflection in the mirror, smiles & coos at himself the whole time. He's started to use his hand to "brush" the pacifier out of his mouth this week when he thinks it's starting to make him sleepy...little stinker. He also likes to pull on his hair or his ears while nursing or Momma's hair--he is definitely going to be a hair puller. He will also hold onto the hem of my shirt or my finger while he's nursing. So, so sweet! Started making a noise this week that sounds like he's imitating us clicking our tongue. I do it to him all of the time (since he likes the sound) so it's no wonder. He loves to have his tummy nommed on & also to be bounced while standing. He's started to not like being placed on our shoulder & will squirm & try to burrow his head into my neck/shoulder & make grunting noises until I reposition him, this makes burping him even more difficult.

Likes: Grandpa, Momma, Being nakey, Being in the baby carrier, bath time, being rocked, his reflection in the mirror, Being bounced.

Dislikes: Riding in the car, Being completely still, Diaper changes, Being alone, Being put up on a shoulder to be burped, the Bumbo.
