Life with Holden: Week 7

Stats:

Weight: 10.8 pounds on the home scale...so honestly, who knows! I'm guessing this translates to around 11ish on a baby scale.

Diapers: Still in Size 2s & still just using disposables for now.

Clothing: 0-3 month & 3 month sized clothing. Still a few things that are too big.

Milestones:

11/26: First time drinking frozen BM.

11/27: First time crying tears. =( He doesn't cry them every time he cries yet, but he does when he gets REALLY angry or upset (like when we're in the car). Saddest thing ever.

11/28: First Thanksgiving Holiday!

11/30: First Santa Claus visit. He did great! She even managed to get a smile out of him. First dinner out at a restaurant with the family. He slept the majority of the time up until it was time for the bill to come then he was done & K ended up taking him out to the car.

12/01: First Festival of Trees visit. He slept the whole time, but it was a fun family outing none-the-less.

Sleep: Not much has changed on the whole nighttime front. The longest stretch I have gotten has still been about 4.5ish hours. His first stretch of sleep is still the longest & they continue to follow the pattern of decreasing until morning. He's been resisting sleep a bit more this week which means a bit later bedtime, but we are trying to get him down by 9:30 when we can. You can definitely tell when he is ready to go down now though & we are going to have to work on starting a bedtime routine with him. Tonight, the boys were both down by 8PM!! He is still waking 2-3 times night & is usually up for the day around 8/8:30AM. He has become a lot more alert during the daytime this week & is sleeping less & less. He's still a far better daytime sleeper then C ever was, so it's all good. Both boys naps still overlap...a little bit. Ugh! We're still co-sleeping so nothing has changed there & he still goes unswaddled. I doubt we will even try it again with him since he'll likely be rolling in a few short months anyway. I'm considering trying to transition H back to the Rock n' Play at night, but we will see how that goes in the coming weeks. He naps in it just fine during the day. Since he is getting more alert he is more easily woken during the day which has been a real challenge with C around. I think we may have to transition H to napping in the crib or move the Rock n' Play back downstairs...again we will see how it goes. Oi!

Nursing: He's a pig for sure & will NOT miss a meal. He is still eating about every 2-2.5 hours during the day & going up to 4.5 hours max. at night. He's been spitting up a little bit more this week then before, but nothing too bad. He also has still been dealing with some pretty bad gas issues. =( Thanksgiving & the day after were particularly rough for the little guy. I'm not sure if his 6 week growth spurt was partially to blame or if he was just REALLY uncomfortable. Gripe water didn't even seem to help him all that much. He had his third bottle this week & first one of frozen BM. He took it without any problems & my mom really seemed to enjoy feeding him. I'm trying to stick to the one bottle a week thing, but it's kind of like more whenever I think about it. I also have not been pumping daily lately since it's been pretty difficult to find the time for it. He has also been dealing with a little bit of what I think might be reflux this week. Poor kiddo! He woke up this morning gagging due to all of his grunting & pushing in an attempt to get his gas/poop out. Fortunately, he doesn't seem to have any other true indicators of REAL reflux.

Other: He's been smiling & cooing a lot this week so that has been amazing! He's also seemed to mellow out a little more & have a lot more happy times. I think that if he didn't have so many gas issues right now that he would be a lot more easy-going. Only time will truly tell. He now takes a pacifier like a pro, but still does suck his thumb or chew on his hand from time to time. He still hates being in his car seat the majority of the time will usually fuss any time we come to a complete stop for more then a few seconds, at stoplights, in traffic, in drive-thrus ect. He also hates when we leave him in a room by himself without talking to him for more then a few minutes. I don't know if he feels abandoned or what, but he is definitely not a fan. He still loves bath time & being in the baby carrier. I feel like I need more practice with positioning, but he doesn't seem to care. H will fall right to sleep in the carrier pretty much every time he goes in there. He absolutely loves my dad & will give him the biggest & the most frequent smiles out of anyone. He likes when people make funny noises while talking to him or when you whistle (just like his brother). He likes to be bounced while standing up & I can already see that he is going to be the johnny jumper kid, unlike his brother. He still tolerates tummy time fine, but will usually just protest & lay there chewing on his hand.

Likes: Grandpa (my dad), Momma, being bounced, funny noises, bath time, being in the sling

Dislikes: Being in the car seat, diaper changes, being alone (& sleeping alone), being burped in the middle of a feeding
