My kid missed the memo...aka 36 week OB appt.

For those crazy friends & family members on "Birth Watch 2011" please grab your popcorn, soda & a comfy seat....we may be here for a while! lol =)

Today was my first "BIG" appt. I had my GBS test as well as my first internal exam. I didn't gain much weight at this appt (not that I really SHOULD have), but I was a teensy bit surprised at the number on the scale. My UA dip was clear & my B/P was still awesome at 100/80. So yay for still being in great shape there! Baby boy's HR was around 145, but surprisingly I am only measuring at 36 weeks (I hit 37 weeks tomorrow). =( My doctor wasn't worried, but I hope this isn't going to become a trend. I am praying that next Friday I will be back on track. I also got my heartburn medication changed today. Thank goodness! I am looking forward to trying something else since Carter is still up in my ribs/lungs & has been killing me with the heartburn lately.

And didn't they say that movement is supposed to be slowing down at this point & that baby should be sleeping more? HA! I guess my kid didn't get that memo....He is a WILD man. Seriously, I swear that he never sleeps. He is constantly kicking, rolling, punching & hiccuping ALL. DAY. LONG. I guess that means maybe he actually sleeps at night?! Wouldn't that be just marvelous!! =)

The good news? He is still head down! =) I was a little bit worried because earlier today his hiccups were pretty high up on my L. side & so was the location of his heartbeat. For this reason alone, I let my OB do an internal to MAKE absolute sure that he was not transverse in there. On that note, the internal was not that bad really. I expected A LOT worse. It wasn't comfortable by any means, but I don't understand how people cry over it. My OB said that I am 1cm dilated, but only about 20% effaced. She was able to feel Carter's head though so that was reassuring as far as his position is concerned. =)

For inquiring minds, I will say that I think the worst part of the internal exam is the afterward. I have been cramping & spotting ever since. My OB warned me that this would likely happen so no freak out or anything, it's just uncomfortable. Who knew I would get to experience a tiny dose of AF while pregnant? lol

  2. Agreed! It's worth it though. Besides, labor pains are probably going to be a million times worse so I better start getting used to pain. lol
