My initial visit with my OB was today, FINALLY! K took off early so that he & C could come to the appt with me. We got there early, but only had to wait in the waiting room for about 5 mins. Fortunately, no paperwork to fill out still since I had done it at my nurse visit so that part didn't change. Yay!
The MA weighed me (4 pounds up..seriously!?) and took a urine sample (all clear). My blood pressure was 104/80 so fortunately the nerves did not reflect in my BP. I was actually feeling a lot more calm at this point since I had C & K both with me. Afterward, she told me that my doctor was going to come in to talk to me & then I would change so she could do a pelvic exam. Blargh!
After about 5 mins. the assistant came back in the with ultrasound machine which was a relief since I knew for sure at that point that we would get to see our baby. We unfortunately had to wait about 15 mins. longer for my OB, but it wasn't as bad as when K & I had to wait when it was C in my belly.
We talked with the OB a little bit & she listened to my lungs. I did not have to do the pelvic exam (YAYAY!!) and so we just proceeded immediately with the ultrasound. The biggest news is that little pumpkin is not twins. =) I was actually slightly worried about this possibility. We have a singleton again. Also, this kiddo is definitely a mover & a shaker. My OB could not get a good picture or a good measurement since the pumpkin would NOT stay still. A huge relief though to know that we have such an active kiddo in there. We also got to see pumpkin's heart beating. Most beautiful sight ever. I'm a little bit farther along then I thought so my due date is actually October 12 & not the 18th making me 12 weeks, 2 days today. You will notice (or not) that I changed my last survey post to reflect the fact that it was actually my 12 week update & not 11. I'll leave the rest since it will be too confusing otherwise.
I asked about the anterior placenta & unfortunately, it's still too early to tell from the ultrasound. The only way I will know for sure is when I start feeling pumpkin move or I can ask again at our anatomy scan (which is not scheduled yet). I'll have to wait for a call on that, but it will likely be sometime next month. I can't believe we will get to see our little one again so soon!
After the ultrasound, my OB used the doppler to try to listen to pumpkin's heartbeat. It was nice to see that I am not the only one who had a hard time catching LP in one spot. We did get to hear it for a few seconds though when LP threw us a bone & moved into a better position for hearing. LP's heartrate today measured right around 164bmp (C's was 151bmp at 12w,2d) Even seeing LP today did not make me feel any differently about a gender, I still have NO idea.
I made my next two visits on the way out the door, so I will see my OB again May 06 at 17 weeks, 2 days. And now for what ya'll really came for, here's LP:
We've decided we want to tell our family (or at least mine) in person so we are keeping mum to the whole world for a little bit longer. Once my parents & brother, the ILs & my BIL/SIL, & BFF know we will share the news on FB. I don't really care if people from work find out on FB, but I don't really plan on telling anyone there directly for a little bit longer.
