Life with Holden: 1 month

Stats:

Weight: 9 pounds, 4 ounces (with me standing on the home scale with him)

Diapers: We are in size 1s full-time now! I cant believe my baby is growing so fast. =( I had to take back 3 unopened packages of newborn diapers to the store, crazy-cakes!!

Clothing: Slowly outgrowing the newborn clothes. I washed all of his 0-3 month outfits, but most of them are still way too big. His Old Navy stuff seems to be fitting best since they tend to run smaller in kid's stuff. He's kind of in-between sizes right now, but he is officially out of NB sized PJs as of last night. I can't believe I am having to pack away clothes already. =(

Milestones:

11/06: Celebrated Momma's 31st birthday!

11/07: First time napping in the crib. Momma started
pumping again.

11/08: Weighed in at the clinic at 8 pounds, 15 ounces. =)

11/11: First Veteran's day! Thank you, Daddy. <3

11/12: First diaper blow-out...ewww!!

11/13: First bottle.

Nursing: He's still doing amazing! This week he has finally started stretching out his feedings to every 2-3 hours. I am still feeding on demand & sometimes that means eating every hour still (usually in the evening), but for the most part he is going 2-3. Unfortunately, we still aren't getting longer then 3-3.5 hour stretches at night, but I know that he will start sleeping longer when he's ready. For now, I am still enjoying the extra snuggles & doing the best I can with the sleep deprivation. He is still nursing in quick, short sessions & gets the job done quickly & efficiently. An average nursing session (both sides) lasts about 15 mins total or less. He definitely knows what he's doing!! I'm still not tracking him, but I would guess that he is nursing at least 10-11 times daily still. He makes the cutest, grunting, snorting & whiny "uhuhuh" noises when he's hungry He will also start kicking his legs furiously & gesturing at me with his hands. It's so funny! He also gets very angry if I try to burp him in-between sides & prefers that I wait until he is COMPLETELY done. Such a little beast!! =) He took his first bottle on Wednesday & did just fine. I wasn't sure about the amount of milk so I just made a 2.5oz bottle. He was a slight bit hesitant thinking I was trying to give him a paci, but once he realized that milk would come out he took it without a problem. Fortunately (again) he is not like his brother in that he took the bottle slowly & didn't guzzle the whole thing down in 2 seconds. He did however want to nurse after taking the 2.5oz so I let him. I guess I'll have to try a 3oz bottle next go round.

Sleep: It's always subject to change of course, but he's definitely gotten himself more into a routine this week. He is usually up in the morning around 8-8:30AM, then he will usually have some alert time until 10AM when he naps again (this is usually when we run our errands). After his 12PM feeding he will usually take his long nap for the day until about 3:30PM. Usually he will nurse & then go back to sleep again until about 5-5:30PM then he has about an hour to an hour & a half of alert play time. After nursing again he will usually go back to sleep until 8-8:30 then will be awake for a little while again. This is when we usually do bath time, diaper, pajamas, ect. At this point he is usually down for the night, but will always wake-up when I head to bed so that he can get one last session in. He will usually sleep for a 3-3.5 hour stretch initially, then a 2 hour stretch then an hour to an hour & a half at a time. I am hoping eventually he will at least consistently sleep 3 hours at a time. Fortunately, he is usually back to sleep within 20 minutes of waking the majority of the time.

Other: His dry skin & baby acne are finally starting to clear up. He still has all of his hair & boy does it get dirty quickly! We bath him about every 3 days due to his hair & it still seems like he should have it washed daily. Speaking of bath time, he loves it! I honestly think it is one of his favorite times of the day. His hand-eye coordination astounds us, he has so much control over his hands already & can even get his own paci in & out of his mouth most of the time. He has also started to try to bat at his toys on his play mat this week. We've tried several different brands of pacis & the only ones he actually likes & will take regularly are the MAM brand. He is starting to tolerate the pacifier better & will not take it the majority of the time it's offered. He still HATES being in his car seat & will literally almost scream himself blue over having to be in there. He will almost never take the pacifier while in the car. Taking him out to the store is pretty much hell because he will literally scream the WHOLE time if he's in his car seat, I find he does much better in the baby carrier. He loves the carrier & will fall asleep almost immediately while in it, every.single.time. He is getting a lot better with tummy time this week & seems to be tolerating his mat time a lot better then last week. He still isn't a huge fan of diaper changes either, but is seeming to tolerate them a little bit better this week as well. He has been smiling a lot more this week, but they are still pretty little & not regular. He's also been having more issues with gas pains, but he definitely seems to handle them & pass them a lot easier then Carter did. He still burps & farts like a grown man!

Likes: Eating, sleeping, snuggling, bath time, the sling, the elephant toy on his play mat, looking at himself in the mirror, Momma, napping on Daddy, Brother.

Dislikes: Being in his car seat or in the car, diaper changes, being burped, gas pains, being too hot, being made to wait, being alone
